Treating doctor acts as a guide and as a counselor also. Patient should feel free to ask him any queries. Patient should know answers to the following queries, to have proper information about his disease:
* When the glycosylated haemoglobin was tested? Why is it important to have regular glycosylated haemoglobin estimation?

* What is his lipid profile? What are the results and what do they mean?

* How frequently should blood sugar testing be done? What should the target blood sugars levels be?

* What is the significance of microalbuminuria (the earliest test for kidney disease)?

* What dietary guidelines should be followed?

* Are there any problems with eyes and feet?

* Is blood pressure normal?

* Which complications of diabetes are present?

A routine screening for complications of diabetes should be done at least once a year.
