All you need to know about diabetes

iStock_000008952576XSmallDiabetes is a metabolic disease that evolves over time, and which is manifested by increasing glucose and the appearance of sugar in the urine. For this reason the patient feels the need to drink plenty of fluids, has an excessive appetite and urinate large quantities of liquid.

Diabetes is the most common endocrine disease and is characterized by complications, which develops over time and affects the eyes, kidneys, nerves and blood vessels. These symptoms may occur suddenly in patients younger than 40 years, and which usually are not obese.

Types of diabetes

1. Juvenile diabetes, the presence of acetone in the urine, acid-base imbalance and reduction of alkaline reserve. Usually, this is a serious form and person is insulin dependent.

2. Fat diabetes in adults and elderly. In the first phase, this form of diabetes can be treated only with dietary treatment and by homeopathy and phytotherapy. If they do not give the expected results the next step is namely insulin.

Secondary forms of diabetes that cause pathological conditions that favor the appearance of diabetes:

* Pancreatic disease;
* Hormonal disorders;
* Drugs and chemicals;
* Abnormalities of insulin receptors;
* Genetic syndromes.


Herbal plants are best known for hypoglycaemic action:

* Blueberry leaves are administered in the form of tea;
* Walnut leaves are used as infusion and drink 2-3 cups a day;
* Sage leaves should be macerated and then eaten;
* Nettle leaves, all administered in the form of infusion is prepared from 60g of leaves in one liter of water and drink 2 cups per day.

After the carbohydrate content, foods are classified:

* 5% carbohydrate foods: cabbage, cauliflower, bell peppers, aubergines, courgettes, tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, radishes, mushrooms, watermelon, oranges, mandarins, grapefruit, blueberries, milk, cheese;
* 10% carbohydrate foods: carrots, onions, beets, celery, green peas, strawberries, cherries, apples, pears, peaches, grapes, nuts, peanuts, tortilla;
* 15% carbohydrate foods: Jonathan apples, apricots;
* 20% carbohydrate foods: potatoes, dry beans, bananas, plums, pasta.
* 50% carbohydrate foods: bread.

Spa treatment from diabetes requires an internal treatment, in which they use mineral waters, alkaline, sulfur, sulphate, calcium, magnesium. This treatment is not recommended for diabetic patients dependent on high doses of insulin or with severe complications.


Its management is for patients who do not respond to natural treatments, diet or treatment with oral agents. There are 3 types of insulin: fast, intermediate and slow. Insulin begins to act quickly after an hour of administration, maximum effect after 6 hours and the maximum duration of action is 16 hours. Intermediate insulin begins to act after 2 and a half hours after administration, maximum effect is observed after 11 hours and total duration of action is 25 hours.
